Memory and history – the latter seen as our own personal interpretation of the former – are unconscious processes written in parallel as we, individuals, advance in life. But, what happens when an individual is forced to leave his/her country and belongings to start a new life in another place? Then, memory and history transform into conscious and tangible bodies, needed in order to be able to deal with life within an estate of absence. Life, traditionally, is a linear process of accumulating things – objects, relationships, experiences. The voluntary renouncement to a series of these things defines a place from where, sometimes, becomes possible to deal with an important loss. Being possession and renouncement directly related to life and death, respectively, one could study the multiple lives (and deaths) of a single individual during his/hers own migratory movements.
