I design systems around one tested core with a configuration for each client, site or user, so that what is common is proven once and what is particular is configured: from a 2003 dwelling thesis to platforms in production today.

Core and configurations

Germinating since 2003, in A Proposal to Inhabit Applied in 15 works, 2003–2026 Today: Operations Platform, Space Designer, Construction Documents Engine, Family Hub, Site Control

A core, and its complementary positions or parts. What is common is solved once and proven; what is particular is configured.

The research question

How does a new city guarantee its continuity in time?

First stated, 2013

“A system in which every element can hold several complementary positions at once”: the plan for Juan Bosch City, constantly regenerating itself to adapt to future territorial realities, and so guaranteeing the city's continuity in time.

I A unit, and the cycles of a life · 2003

My graduation thesis, A Proposal to Inhabit, asked how the Dominican dwelling could move from the minimal traditional unit to a coherent residential space. The minimum unit became the core; the cycles that define the needs of a life, its configurations. Its module, the Portable House, is one module with one kit for each site.

II Two scales, one year · 2013

For Juan Bosch City, a master-plan competition in which we were finalists, the plan was traced from its doors, and every element could hold several positions at once. The same year, for 240 apartments at San Isidro, one courtyard became the core and a series of triangular open-air pockets its configurations, each giving its part of the courtyard a scale of its own.

III The core, uncovered · 2015

“A volume of 400 layers which, cut lengthwise into three sections to uncover the core, results in four pieces of 400 layers each.”

In Rialengo No.3 the core is literal. The three outer pieces are the moulds that carving throws away, kept and shown: absence as the void, made visible.

What you can hire today

A system configured for your organisation from one tested core: what is common is already proven; what is yours is configured. My Operations Platform gives each organisation its own platform from one tested kit; at a construction-finishes retailer, it runs on seventeen in-house applications. My Space Designer serves any number of clients from one generic core, each with its own branch of a library of 42 models and 209 finishes.

Formalised in: Operations Platform · Space Designer · Construction Documents Engine · Family Hub · Site Control

Tell me how your organisation works: you walk me through it, I show you what is core and what should be configured. I answer within 48 hours.
